About this project

This is the recently completed Ibstock House, which is part of the Ibstock & Barlestone Surgeries in Leicestershire. The surgery was in need of a refurbishment that employs innovative ideas to help patients feel comfortable and welcome, but also to address issues such as the surgery’s file storage requirements and current spatial limitations.

The front of the surgery was given a striking extension and facade to create a bright and inviting reception and waiting area. This allowed the internal layout of the existing part of the building to be reconfigured to create new consultation and treatment rooms and updated facilities to cater for the surgery’s existing and growing patient base. Following (and during) the Covid-19 pandemic, the surgery also then needed to implement additional procedures including a one-way system, which is designed into the new plan so that visitors have a separate entrance and exit.

A small rear extension allowed an enclosed outdoor equipment storage area to be created, removing a corridor and improving the general layout of this area. The first floor also underwent a reconfiguration to allow for staff office spaces away from the main surgery.

Following a wonderful opening day with the ribbons being cut by actor couple Stephen Graham and his wife Hannah Walters, the surgery was also a finalist in the 2023 Leicestershire ProCon Awards.
